two nights in a row staying up too late

Though so far tonight doesn't look like it will be as bad as last night. Last night it was 03:00 before I finished working on converting the speech I'll be giving at the conference on Friday into a poster. This at the request of the conference organizers, who want all speakers to bring a poster too. Apparently there will be a poster contest. Yesterday during the day I was on the microprobe all day--first trying to get decent data for the old samples for which we are still lacking good analyses for a few phases. then I started analyzing the latest experiment. Oddly, there are very few phases in this one. We were hoping to find where talc comes in for the higher temperature range, but the answer is "not here". One sample contains only garnet and muscovite and quartz. The other has those three plus kyanite (which makes sense--it is the higher Al starting composition which contains the Al-based extra phase).

This morning I slept in till after 10 (as one should when one goes to bed after 4) and then finished up final layout/design edits of the poster and had it printed. Then I applied for three jobs and helped [livejournal.com profile] clovis_t update his resume and printed the map to get to the conference in the morning (it is a two day gathering of Marie Currie Fellows), and suddenly it is nearly 01:00 and I still need to do yoga and read my 1000! And the train I want to catch leaves Milan at 06:40, which means leaving my place at 06:00...

I probably have a house guest this weekend. I received a letter through couch surfing from someone who actually read my profile and cared enough to send me a personalized message. It worked, I said yes. I also pointed out that I didn't know what time I'd be getting back to Milan on Friday from Turin...
